(17) Let's talk about the risk and development of Blockchain Games from Axie Infinity Ban Wave
On November 19, 2021, Sky Mavis started a Ban Wave. On the first day, more than 24,000 pets and more than 10,000 accounts were banned, the transaction time banned to 999 days. In my game chat group, some players have been banned for playing multiple accounts on one machine, and some have been banned by using scripts (Robs). We have discussed the detail for ban wave for a long time, but no good result.
Although I always support the Team to defeat rot (scripts) , and after this ban wave, the difficulty of PVP decreased then I get more SLP, but I do not completely agree with the action. Sudden attack is not good.
The reasons are below:
1. If a player uses a script tool to play multiple accounts on one machine at the same time or even speed up the game, it is indeed unfair to the time and energy spent by other players. But if scripts are not used, and one person has multiple game accounts to play for SLP, then this behavior is not harmful. In many traditional games, many players are willing to own and use multiple game accounts. In Blockchain games, one person is not allowed to have multiple accounts. This restriction does not help promotion. In the short term, it is more conducive to promotion when players can play to earn. When the number is big enough, then the team could restrict multiple accounts. Now the restriction starts, which makes me think that the restriction is too early.
2. The team believe that the player has violated the rules in Toc, therefore, those players got banned and not able to use services. However, many players at present come for Play to Earn, and they don't spend much time on Toc. Everyone is more willing to study and discuss game content, pet selection and how to make more money. Under such conditions, many people are unknowingly or even actively violating Toc, but the players are ignorant of the punishment that this kind of behavior will incur, and many people don't even think about it. Once the punishment really comes to players, it must be very easy to feel resentment.
As a result, many players who were originally happy to participate will be punished and think that they have been cut as leeks and that the game is a liar. Therefore, what I do not agree with is this radical and sudden attack. Later, the official made some adjustments, such as shortening the ban time and release some banned Axies. I personally appreciate this kind of remedial action, which shows that the team has also considered players' suggestions.
3. The action of severely punishing scripts and ban mutiple accounts players caused accidental injury to some big-spend players and breeding players. A breeding merchant in my wechat group who rarely played PVP got. As a result, he was banned on the 19th, and the ban time has not been shortened. He used to be a fan of Axie Infinity, after banned he doubts himself and refused to be a long-term fan.
In addition, I think the ban wave will Impact on scholarship managers. Axie Infinity requires managers to manage that accounts they lent will not be used for multiple accounts in one machine, which has higher requirements for the use of related auxiliary tools and the selection of people. Many people may simply give up providing scholarships to strangers because its troublesome and prevent risks.
4. Relatively this behavior has the characteristics of centralized game and runs counter to the goal of decentralized game. I personally dislike many centralized online game companies who abuse their power at will. If decentralized game companies also show abuse of power, it can be said to be a blow to their own ideas.
In fact, the banning incident also expose a hidden danger of the DAO organization. When encountering problems or difficulties, the DAO organization still needs a core/central team to focus on solving the problem in a short time, and the loose structure of the DAO organization may not be able to deal with this problem in time. To solve big problems in time, a centralized core team, is still very important in the DAO organizations.
In the long run,in the future, if players really have controlled the development of Axie Infinity, then a large amount of voting rights are bought by some big, rich and powerful groups. At that time, how can Axie Infinity guarantee it will still go in the right way? How can it always be consistent with the goals of its community members / players/managers? I have doubts and worries about this.
In these days, I happened to see the news of another chain game Legend of Blood 4. Before Axie Infinity, it also carried out a ban wave , which made many investment players lose their money. Therefore, I want to clarify : the irregular bans from Block chain game team, no matter what the purpose is, is a real risk to players / investors. Even if someone has not violated the rules, there is still the problem of accidentally injured ,then unable to use and trade his/her game NFTs for a long time.
Let me list some other risks that I know in Block chain games.
1. Mutt Block Chain Games, many shoddy projects take the chance of blockchain to get hotter, attract players to come, after players have invested, take money and run away in a short time, such as Squid Game Online.
2. In Discord of Block Chain Games, there are a large number of scammers . They pretend to be hunters, hunting newcomers, some of them have certain technical knowledge, and are good at using social engineering attacks. In August, as an enthusiastic Axie Infinity noob, I was hunt. I was cheated by a scammer on the official Axie Infinity channel,he got the Secret Phrase Seed then took away my game NFTs.
3. Some people make money by teaching people to play chain games, then trick the learners into buying Axies with bad skills they hang in the market.
4. Provide private recharge services, but charge others with fake tokens to defraud others of their money.
Once again, I want to remind everyone who participates in blockchain games to stay vigilant all the time, pay attention to precautions, and avoid being tricked by scammers!!!
I also want to tell something about DAO today.
Many blockchain projects that based on crypto currency, have the goal of establishing a decentralized organization DAO in the future. So, can we find a successful and mature decentralized organization in the real world for research and learn from it? ? I always think about this question ,maybe it has not yet reached that step, but in these days, I think that I have found a reference answer: Huawei .
An old story about Huawei introduced an elevator operator who was new to her job and did not know Ren Zhengfei (Leader of Huawei). When Ren Zhengfei entered the elevator as the last one and caused the elevator to overload, he was invited out by the elevator operator.
In this story, one of the important things I care is that even if the other people in the elevator recognize Ren Zhengfei, they didn't act positively to make room for the big leader. This phenomenon of treating top leaders as ordinary people is unimaginable in many companies, but perhaps in Huawei's corporate culture, this is normal.
At least at that time, Huawei's employees didn't think that the boss Ren Zhengfei was superior, and they would not be punished for not giving the leader to use elevator first, or they would get any benefits by actively performing on the elevator. People know that Huawei is an employee-owned company and insists on not going public.
This shareholding model is completely different from the large proportion of senior executives in listed companies. For blockchain projects, tokens will be issued and be used. Contributors are rewarded and hold token to vote. These tokens are distributed and circulated within the organization just like stocks. To a certain extent, tokens are the stocks of blockchain projects.
In 2003, the Huawei Holding Labor Union served as a platform for employee stock ownership, and it has been in use till today. The founder, Mr. Ren Zhengfei, holds 1.01% of the company's shares as a natural person shareholder. At the same time, Mr. Ren Zhengfei also participated in the employee stock ownership plan. By the end of 2018, his total investment accounted for approximately 1.14% of the company's total shares.
Huawei does have a centralized company structure, but its corporate culture is in line with decentralized organizations. Therefore, I think that in the future development process of many DAO organizations can use Huawei as a reference object. I also hope that Axie Infinity and Sky Mavis can become a company or DAO organization with this kind of culture.
The decentralized organization DAO is very similar to the early collective economy, but after the collective economy has developed to a certain scale, various problems will arise. I wonder if the DAO has the opportunity and the ability to solve the problems encountered by the collective economy? Let us wait and see the result.
In the future, I would also like to talk about MEME, something related to culture.
